27th International Organisation of Breast Cancer Research (IABCR) – Human Genome Organisation (HUGO) Genomics, Biology & Breast Cancer Treatment Conference 2010

The American Society of Breast Surgeons Meeting
Las Vegas, USA 2010
Dr Susan Lim and Dr Lam Foong Lian recently participated in the 11th Annual Meeting of The American Society of Breast Surgeons held in Las Vegas, USA from 28 April - 2 May 2010.
Some 1,400 delegates, mostly from the US, gathered to discuss the latest issues on breast disease.
Of special interest during the 5-day meeting were the topics on:

Controversies in breast surgery

Advances in DCIS and triple-negative disease

Molecular predictors of prognosis

Dr Lim and Dr Lam presented a poster on their research entitled: "Spontaneous malignant transformation in v itro of adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells from patients with benign and malignant breast lesions". This work is a team effort of the National University of Singapore, Stem Cells Technology i and Susan Lim Surgery.

The American Society of Breast Surgeons Meeting
San Diego, California, USA 2009
Dr Susan Lim and Dr Lam Foong Lian recently returned from the 10th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Breast Surgeons held in San Diego, California from April 22-26, 2009.
Some 1,000 delegates from all over the USA, as well as Europe and Asia, were present at this meeting to listen, discuss and exchange ideas on the treatment of benign and malignant breast diseases.

Highlights of this year's meeting include talks on:

Molecular classification of breast cancer

Genetics and breast cancer prevention

Reverse lymphatic mapping

The keynote address by Dr Laszlo Tabar was also very enlightening and informative, touching on "A new era in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer".
Commercial exhibitors were also on site, showcasing the latest technology as well as procedures that promote education, research and development of advanced surgical techniques in breast disease and cancer.

Dr Lim and Dr Lam presented a poster on their research entitled :

"An Analysis of the Immunophenotype and Gene Expression Profile of MSCs Derived from the Stroma of Benign & Malignant Breast Tissue" (Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed)

This work is a team effort of the National University of Singapore, Stem Cell Technologies i and Susan Lim Surgery.

Dr Susan Lim, through Centre for Breast Cancer and Surgery, a division of Susan Lim Surgery, organised a one-day Women’s Health Screening event in conjunction with Unifem Singapore and Parkway Group Healthcare. The event reached out to all domestic workers in Singapore offering a free one-day health screening, focusing on breast cancer prevention and early detection.
This one-day event was a huge success which saw the participation of over 600 domestic workers.

Dr Susan Lim was a key-note speaker at the International Women's Day 2007 organised by the Australian High Commission, Singapore and the National Committee for United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
